In fact he was the only attorney so recognized in the field of Child Custody. Douglas R. Hughes has been focused on helping and guiding clients through difficult divorce and child custody matters for many years. Douglas R. Hughes spent nearly 10 years as a Deputy Prosecutor in Spokane County. His work for the Spokane County Prosecuting Attorney included cases as diverse as Leading Organized Crime, Stolen Vehicles, Human Trafficking, and Driving Under the Influence. From 2009-2011 he was designated the Spokane County Auto Theft Task Force Prosecutor, after his instrumental role in establishing the Task Force and obtaining significant grant funds for the county. He litigated nearly one hundred cases to jury trial, and was responsible for resolving many hundreds more during this time. Douglas R. Hughes brings his skills as a litigator to handling family law matters with the same dedication and intensity as he formerly brought to criminal prosecution. After turning his experience and attention to family law and child custody litigation, Douglas R. Hughes has spoken at numerous continuing legal education seminars as well.

A graduate of Washington State University, Douglas R. Hughes earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He then attended the University of Oregon School of Law. During his time in law school, Douglas was elected class speaker at graduation after a distinguished academic career involving management of the law school newspaper, volunteer work in the legal clinic, and tutoring other students.
